A block-coil dipole is being developed for VLHC. The short-sample field is 13 Tesla @ 4.2 oK, 12 Tesla @ 5 oK. The dipole uses Nb3Sn inner windings and NbTi outer windings. The Nb3Sn windings use a hybrid cable in which the additional copper needed for quench protection is provided as pure copper strands. The dipole aperture is 5 cm horizontal x 3 cm vertical. The total cross-sectional area of Nb3Sn strand required for the dipole is 16 cm2, the least of any high-field VLHC design. A first NbTi prototype has been completed, and the first hybrid model is being built. Construction specifics will be discussed, and preliminary test results may be available.
