The status of the main magnet development / production for the LHC will be briefly presented. The current thinking of how to satisfy beam physics requirements with imperfect magnets will be discussed. Some work on the magnet protection for the LHC will be presented, and ideas for protection of future machines with superconducting magnets will be outlined. Finally, the question of satisfying field quality requirements for a VLHC collider in the presence of limited budget will be discussed.
