SSC Cryogenic Plant Assessment for Fermilab's SRF R&D Facility at the New Muon Lab
Major components of the SSC laboratory's MTL helium refrigerator are in storage in the old ZGS Hall at Argonne National Laboratory. Fermilab has the opportunity to obtain these plant components. This website provides links to various documents about the SSC cryogenic plant and the suitability of that plant for use as the helium refrigerator for a superconducting RF R&D facility at the New Muon Lab at Fermilab.
"Design Verification and Acceptance Tests of the ASST-A Helium Refrigeration System," by V. Ganni and T. V. V. R. Apparao, Advances in Cryogenic Engineering, Vol 39A, pp. 779 - 787. This paper describes tests of an essentially identical refrigerator to the one in storage at ANL.
