Eyed Brown (Lethe eurydice)
Fermilab, ELM-20 (eastern side of site, south of Wilson St.), DuPage County, Illinois July 29, 2003 Eyed Browns seldom stray from the wetlands where their caterpillars feed on sedges. They may be found even in very small sedge meadows. At Fermilab, we have Eyed Browns in the sedges in the center of the Main Ring, in ELM 1, and in small sedge meadows near the ponds on the eastern side of the site, about 3 miles away. These populations are probably genetically quite separate from one another. |
